Game Design Analysis: Sleeping Dogs, Her Story & Cultist Simulator
About the project
This project consists of a series of individual game design case studies conducted on Sleeping Dogs, Her Story, and Cultist Simulator. Each breakdown examines the design decisions behind the game's mechanics, systems, progression, player experience, and overall design philosophy. The objective was to better understand how successful games solve design challenges and to strengthen my ability to analyze and communicate gameplay systems.
Project overview
Each case study focuses on a different aspect of game design based on the strengths of the selected title. The analyses cover topics such as gameplay loops, progression systems, player agency, environmental storytelling, information architecture, economy design, onboarding, UX, and feedback systems. Every study was documented independently through written observations, diagrams, gameplay breakdowns, and supporting visuals.
What I did
Scope of Analysis
Conducted independent design analyses for three commercially released games.
Identified each game's core design pillars and gameplay loops.
Broke down progression systems, mechanics, and player interactions.
Analyzed how individual systems contribute to player engagement and retention.
Documented findings using gameplay diagrams, flowcharts, and written breakdowns.
Applied observations to strengthen my understanding of gameplay systems and design methodologies.
